i have 2 pcs in my house. the comp in my room has a cable connection which i want to share with the comp in my parents' room. bothe comps have xp home so i used the xp wizards and i can share documents and printers and stuff just fine, but the internet connection sharing just stopped working a while ago and i really want to fix it. i can access the internet fine, but the client can't, which is really annoying.
things i have tried:
1) tried reinstalling all network cards completely
2) tried running network setup wizard again (works on the client but the hosty gives me an obscure error message)
3) tried enabling internet connection sharing in network places, this again gives me an error.
basically i want to know why this error happens and how i can correct it, or how i can just configure it manually (all these xp wizards are fine until you run into a probelm :orge:)

I have it and it's easy so you probably want something else...
Anyway i did mine by making a new internet connection with connection wizard and say i wanted internet via LAN.

hhmmm got to be something simple because it's supposed to be easy to share the connections. make sure you got your network set up as a domain and not a workgroup. i've never had to do that cause i would rather just use a router and lan switch so i'm not sure if you have to set up a real network or if XP just allows you to share it without a network but i would just got buy a cheap router and lan switch so you dont gotta have both computers on at the same time.
also make sure you have the internet connection set up properly on the second computer, in IE you go to tools/options/connections tab and work from there. i'm also not sure if you have to assign your computers network ips or not but you may have to.

it worked in the past for about 3 weeks, then stopped working. it did the same problem as now (no methods would work) but in the end i reinstalled from scratch and it worked. it worked again for about 6 weeks, but now it won't work even if i reinstall everything. my only option if reformatting both comps to erase all the settings, but that seems like such a waste.

hmmmm, you definately should not have to do that. you may be having hardware problems or it is possible you are inadvertantly changing one of the settings that makes it work.
