Hi ppl, long time no see, got my new pc running but can't get Red Alert 2 to start :( Bah! knew I should have stuck with Intel!

When I run Red Alert 2, it begins to load (Screen goes black) then returns to the desktop in Windows. (I don't see any evidence of it trying to load except the big red "Red Alert 2" logo at the start.

Can anyone help me? My specs are:

AMD XP2400+
Iwill MPX2 Motherboard (Server board, very stable)
512 MB DDR ECC Registered Ram <--- Crucial (brand name)
NVidia Geforce4 MX 440 64MB DDR <--- loads ra2 fine on old pc
Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 <--- Used in old PC
Yamaha SW1000XG <--- Used in old PC

Windows XP Professional (again Intel machine runs ra2 with this OS)

It runs my other games fine. I fear this is the "Crash to desktop (before even loading)" bug.

Send your suggestions my way!

What do the first few lines in except.txt say?

stick with intel if you want to pay more cash for an inferior product...

anyway, try the usual reinstalls, maybe update the game to the latest patch, or try looking on the westwood technical support site.

I don't have an except.txt it doesn't even load the game so it can't produce an except.txt report :(

I reinstalled. I tried to "Play Ra2 Now" after installation it didn't work...
I upgraded to 1.006 and it also didn't load :( not sure what the problem is.

Heh I had the same problem. Check to see if the computer recognize your video card. If they dont see anything, you will need to install it.

Yeah, I'd say before you go blaming the processor (of all things!) for your misfortunes, it might be prudent to eliminate some more probable possibilities first such as problems with your new XPs. Look for problems with your drivers (sound/video), directX, or other similar game running/supporting software in particular.

BTW what was your old OS?

BTW I forgot to mention, if the vcard is known, then do the windows update. That fix the sound problem on my dads computer.

I have the same problem. I find it happens when I have already opened a program that takes up the whole screen, or in some cases, any old program (such as outlook) in the same session as when I open RA2/YR.

It's probably a different reason than yours, but thought I'd say it anyway.

Oh, then try Olaf van der Spek's RA2 User Patch.

don't blame AMD!!! AMD OWNS!!!

sup integrand long time man. uninstall ra2 and reinstall it, if that doesn't work check ra2 technical support, if they have nothing on your problem get your latest upgrade for your bios and motherboard and try again. one of those things shoudl work.
